Nova suffered from something called middle-of-the-night insomnia. She would fall asleep just fine, only to wake up three or four hours later and unable to fall back asleep, no matter how tired she was. She didn't hate it, but she didn't exactly love it either; it gave her a lot of time to work on writing, but it also took energy out of her. Within the past two years coffee had definitely become her best friend. Not only had her senior year brought on a lot of work with honors and AP courses, but when she began to write, she couldn't stop or else she'd forget all the ideas that rushed through her mind, and coffee helped with that.
It was a bright, sunny Saturday morning. She had wanted to get to starbucks before it became crowded and there was no place for her to sit with her laptop. She wasn't opposed to the simple pen and paper type of writing, but with typing, she didn't have to worry about not being able to read her handwriting when she wrote too fast. Clad in a pair of shorts and a tank top, she slipped on her sneakers, grabbed her laptop bag, and was out the door.
The air was warm on her pale skin. No matter how hard Nova tried, she just couldn't get tanned. She would get sunburned instead. She remembered her cousins always making fun of her when they went to the beach when they were kids, and she got so mad that she wouldn't talk to them for days. Now, she laughs along with them - why get mad about things that are, well, pointless? Her hair was down, falling down on her shoulders. She had barely even touched it that morning, and it looked good. Not that she was complaining.
A few blocks over and she had reached the Starbucks where everybody knew her name. She walked in and was greeted by multiple good mornings and hellos. This was like a rerun of that show Cheers her parents had watched years ago. She smiled and waved at people she knew. They weren't her friends, technically; more like acquaintances. She didn't know too many people that she would call 'friends'. She was always so busy writing different stories and poems and occasionally dabbing in painting. She wasn't so good at painting, but she did enjoy the history of art. Picasso, van Gogh - she loved it all. However, she adored Shakespeare even more.
Nova walked up to the counter, smiling at girl behind the counter. "A vanilla bean cappuccino, please," she said in her soft voice. The girl began to bustle around to get the order. She was obviously a new employee who was still learning the ropes. Nova glanced around. It was almost eleven in the morning and it seemed people had gotten the same idea as her. She paid the girl at the front and took her drink, muttering a thank you as she walked to a small, two person table next to the window.
She sat down, taking her laptop out of its case and placed it on the table. She started it up and clicked on the most recent document. It was entitled 'Before Dawn Arrives'. It was her latest story. She hadn't gotten very far yet, but she was sure ideas would come to her. She sipped her cappuccino, looking around. A few more people had come in after her, most with friends. She then looked out of the window and waited for some rush of ideas to go through her mind.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ William had woken up at 7 AM like every morning. And had pulled on the clothes that he was running in. He had decided that he wanted to run 5 miles before getting his morning coffee at Starbucks. He took on his shoes and locked the door to his room, before walking slowly to the entrance. As William walked outside he looked around and started stretching out. He took a deep breath, and started to run. Even though William still was tired, he knew that by the end of his route he would be full of energy. William has a certain route that he would run every morning. Lots of people at the school didn't understand why William wasn't in the clique beers, because William was kinda a jock. He loved playing basket ball, foot ball, base ball. And all kinds of sport. But even though William was a huge fan sports, then he was still a bigger fan of girls. He had been with a lot of girls at the school. And that's why he choose Pink Pussy as his Clique.
William had now been running 4 miles, and was almost at Starbucks. He could taste the coffee in his mouth. And got so excited that he actually started to run faster, than he usually would. William made it to Starbucks, and walked inside. William didn't look around to see if there was anyone he knew, no he walked straight to the desk. And with a smile on his lips and a sparkle in his eye, he winked to the girl behind the desk. He ordered a cappuccino, and while waiting for it he looked at the girl and asked for her number. He told her that he would love to hang out or go on a date with her. The girl happily gave William her number. William gave the girl a wink and paid for the coffee. He turned around and was walking toward the exit when he saw a familiar face sitting at the window.
William changed direction, and was now walking toward Nova. He had a smile on his face, and as he made it to the table he sat down on the chair next to Nova's. "I hope this seat isn't taken, because it's mine now" William laughed a little, and gave Nova a smile. "What are you doing here Nova" William didn't think of Nova as a coffee drinker. Because he hated soda, and junk food. So why would she like Coffee. William took a sip of his coffee and placed it on the table in front of him.

Even in the coffee shop, Nova could feel the heat from the sun on her shoulder. The sun was definitely very strong today, and she scrunched up her nose. This city was no place for a girl as pale as her, and many times she contemplating leaving. But she had a great school to go to, and she couldn't bear to leave her family when they were going through such a hard time. She bit her lip lightly and stared at the computer screen, watching the cursor blink and getting lost in her thoughts. She must have been like that for a while, because when she heard someone say something to her she jumped a mile high in the air and squeaked.
Her head whipped to the side to see who it was, and sighed. It was William. Her heart stopped racing - not completely, because, well, it was William - and she flushed a bright pink. "Hi," she said, grabbing her heart. "Jesus, you nearly gave me a heart attack." She laughed softly, half from amusement and half from embarrassment. She had squeaked. Like a mouse. And if that wasn't embarrassing enough, she was still shaking from the surprise of someone actually going up to her.
"I hope this seat isn't taken, because it's mine now." She smiled. "Oh, be my guest," she said politely and motioned to the seat across from her. Why had he gone up to her, Nova wondered? She wasn't doing anything besides just sitting there, and she wasn't at all interesting to anyone. Maybe he was just desperate for someone to talk to and she was just there. That's how it was most of the time with her. People didn't want to seem like losers sitting by themselves like they have no friends, so they walk up to the girl who really has no friends and pretends. She was used to that by now. "What are you doing here, Nova?" he had asked. She shrugged and looked around, gesturing to the other customers. "Oh, you know," she began, "drinking coffee in a coffee shop like a normal person." She smiled.
"Actually I was trying to work on a story I had started a few days ago. But I can't seem to get any ideas..." She shrugged and closed the laptop, leaving it on. She sipped her cappuccino, feeling jitters in her stomach still. She tilted her head and looked over at him. "And what, may I ask, are you doing here, William?" Her bright blue eyes looked at his attire. It was obvious he had gone to the gym or had been jogging or something. Or maybe he was just comfortable in those clothes. She placed her coffee on the table and slid her laptop back into it's van Gogh case hanging on the back of her chair. She turned back to him and pushed a lock of hair from her eyes.
